In Greek mythology, Ares was often referred to as the Olympian god of warfare. He represented power as well as vigor, and was worshipped by all warriors as someone who never gives up. Arestar 2009 CG International Challenge is named after Ares and the purpose of this competition is to encourage CG artists to pursuit their dreams.
The Arestar 2009 CG International Challenge organisers have the honor of having Concept Design Artist John Howe as one of the judges and to provide materials. John Howe is best known for his work on Peter Jackson’s 'Lord of the Rings' movie trilogy based on J.R.R.Tolkien’s worlds. Howe served as one of the chief conceptual designers. His other work includes images of myths such as the 'Beowulf' motion picture. He has also illustrated many fantasy books, such as 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' and 'A Song of Ice and Fire'.

战神Ares，古希腊神话中奥林匹斯十二神之一，被视为尚武精神的化身。他代表勇气和胜利，被即将上战场的战士们疯狂地崇拜。他勇猛顽强，是力量与权力的象征。火星的名字是古希腊人起的，他们认为这颗星球与战神Ares有关。
本次大赛设置了$15,000美金的总奖金池，我们将为全球CG行业的艺术家提供创造绚烂的梦幻世界的卓越平台。
本次大赛分为角色组和场景组两类，参赛者可自由选择。
A、角色组的参赛者在我们给定的概念设定（阿比瑟族斗士或阿比瑟族首领维金斯）基础上，进行该角色细节设定，以及角色的建模、贴图，并最终以三维方式展现原画设定的角色。角色完成后，需为该角色设定一种姿势，姿势不限于原画设定中的形态，可自由设定（包括各种站、坐、蹲、卧等）充分发挥创意和想象力，使您的角色作品虽来自同样的原画设定，但却具有别样的风格。最后，为角色配上合适的二维场景，场景图可以从我们提供的素材中选择使用，也可以自己创作，并最终组合成一幅完整的参赛作品。

The competition is divided into two groups: character group and scene group.
The entries can choose any of the group.
A. The entries from Character group will create a 3D character based on the concept design we provide (Abysm Fighter or Vengeance). Character set up: modeling, mapping and 3D visualization. After that, the entries need to design a pose for the character, with the character standing, sitting, squatting or lying down. At last, a 2D background is needed to complete the work.
